The first feeding reveals so much about an infants oral function..
At the first sign of a struggle to feed, whether at breast or bottle, a Functional Assessment by a specially trained provider is warranted. This provider should be knowledgeable about oral function and hold the ability to screen for tethered oral tissues.
Feeding difficulties early on can create undue stress on the infant/parent dyad.
A common misconception is that breastfeeding is painful, when actually pain is a red flag for dysfunction and should not be dismissed. Struggling to feed your infant in any capacity should be viewed as a que to seek professional guidance.
Always remember, just because symptoms are COMMON never means they are NORMAL.
Identifying the cause of your infants oral dysfunction is the first step. Proper Preparation prior to the release of tethered oral tissues and the level of after care is just as important as the release itself. This preparation should include a care team specific to your child's unique needs. Only after preparation is complete should a frenectomy procedure be completed.
I strive to provide the highest level of education, preparation and support to the families I work with. This support includes preparation mentally, physically as well as providing the guidance needed for their child’s frenectomy procedure to be successful and optimal oral function restored.
Areas of Support Provided:
My passion for helping individuals achieve optimal oral health began in 1993 when I graduated Dental Hygiene School. In 2011, after the negative impacts of undiagnosed oral ties directly affected my family, that passion led me outside the walls of clinical dental hygiene and into the World of Orofacial Myology where I found my true purpose as well as passion.
Since that time I have accumulated hundreds of hours of specialized training in the fields of lactation, airway disorders, holistic health, orofacial myology and continue studying the far reaching impacts of oral dysfunction on the lifespan daily.
A few of the courses I taken over the years include : TOTS with Autumn Henning, numerous courses through Sarah Hornsby of Myomentor, BMTM with Brooke Pettus, the IBCLC Masterclass in Oral Habilitation along with courses through the IAOM of which I am a member. I achieved Ambassador status through The Breathe Institute by obtaining course training in infant frenectomy care.
I maintain my licensure as a Registered Dental Hygienist, Certification as a Health Coach, actively practicing Orofacial Myologist and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant also known as an IBCLC.
I am the founder of Tennessee Tongue-Tie Center in Sumner County ,TN where I utilize my training in these areas on a daily basis assisting laser releases, providing pre and post Frenectomy care, lactation support and oral habilitation to infants and Myofunctional Therapy to older patients.
The love of Orofacial Myology and Lactation are the catalyst behind MyoMyBaby , my mission is to provide accessibility to my much needed skillset to families outside of Gallatin, Tn where Tennessee Tongue-Tie Center is located.
The purpose of MyoMyBaby is to provide early intervention, education, advocacy and access to the highest level of care to all families regardless of their demographic location or release provider choice. My goal is to service all areas of Tennessee and beyond by providing services in person at the Hendersonville office , by telehealth and by offering home visits on a limited basis outside of Sumner County.
